Does this sound much like a FuelShark?

So I was reading on the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! And the ad on the youtube video had a product that sounded a lot like a fuelshark, or in other words, vaporware that doesn't work

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

The GForce at !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (which sounds suspiciously like a nViddia graphics card to me) apparently gives the engine a longer power stroke, which I do believe if I remember correctlly, the length of the power stroke is is controlled by the camshaft, not the engines ECU. plus if the spark timing is advanced too much, the engine will start pinging, which will ruin the engine.

Kinja'd!!!

and apparently, the ECU of a car wont inject more fuel into an engine intake manifold when the throttle is all the way open

Kinja'd!!!

Which is a load of crap. The engines ECU does that itself, it puts in more fuel where more fuel is needed, and less fuel where less is needed.

Apparently manufacturers set the tuning of the ECU for less gas milage than is optimal, which I HIGHLY DOUBT.

Kinja'd!!!

Apparentally it will improve your gas mileage no matter how you drive.

Kinja'd!!!

ITS BECUASE THEY ARE TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!!!

Anyone with any knowledge of mechanics will know this is a bunch of hogwash.

This is why I cringe when people say "I have a tune" 90% of the time they are Full of crap

because obviously any random joe off the street has as much knowledge about these engines as the people who build them.

The stroke is controlled by the crankshaft, not the ECU. The factory ECU already controls spark timing and fuel injection quantities and times. Factory maps aren't perfect, but they are set up to have good all around performance anywhere.

ECU's can be legitimately tuned for increased performance. That may mean that you lose performance in another category, perhaps fuel economy above 8000ft elevation or something like that. But ECU tunes do work, I've seen before and after dyno results on numerous cars.

All that being said, piggyback tuner things like this are garbage and are more likely to ruin your engine than help performance.

interesting, the thing that made me highly skeptical was that they claimed they could increase your fuel economy no matter how you drove, and that it would work on any engine.

The thing about ignition advance is technically correct if there isn't sufficient advance – if the flame front reaches the piston after TDC, then technically yes, you are losing out on a bit of your power stroke, but especially on modern engines with knock sensors, they're able to run as much advance as they possibly can at all times. Total hogwash indeed.

The 'chips' that they're touting look to be the intake-air-temperature foolers that have been around for years in various guises. They attempt to make the ECU run a slightly richer or leaner mixture by making it think that the intake air is colder or hotter than it actually is. Needless to say, they're completely useless.

It's all bullshit really. They clearly know they're screwing people too.

The only reason they make money is because so many people know absolutely nothing about cars.

There were a few that worked off of the TPS too. They would fool the ECU into thinking the throttle was open more than it actually was.

Useless crap. Wish I thought of it first.
